Frozen Baileys Hot Chocolate

Frozen Hot Chocolate

Nestled in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket, Mary’s Milk Bar is a quaint café known for their frozen hot chocolate. When Ian and I were visiting his family in Scotland this summer, I popped in the café to see if this drink held up to all the hype – and if this post is any indication – it did!

Frozen Hot Chocolate

Frozen hot chocolate is an interesting concept, since it combines opposites. Cold ice cream with piping hot chocolate. Crazy? Maybe, but it is delicious! You just have to make sure to enjoy it soon after the ice cream is added, otherwise you are left with a lukewarm drink.

Frozen Hot Chocolate

Today I’m taking an adult spin on frozen hot chocolate and adding a shot of baileys. However, this is just as delicious non-alcoholic. Enjoy!

DIY Stained Wood Art

DIY Stained Wood Art

Target has perfected their home décor section. Ian has to pull me from the aisles whenever we pop in “just to pick up a few items.” If I ever won a Target shopping spree I would leave with a cartload full of wall art, throw pillows, and candles.

DIY Stained Wood Art

Since the reality of me winning a surprise Target shopping spree is quite low, I had to rein in my fantasy and set time aside to make a few DIY pieces instead. I love the look of color stained wood and thought this piece would look great on a bookshelf or a part of a gallery wall.

DIY Stained Wood Art

Here is how you can make your own stained wood state art at home!

Materials:

  • Piece of wood to your desired size
  • Acrylic paint (three colors)
  • Paint brushes
  • Chalk
  • Newspaper

How To:

  1. Lay your piece of wood on top of newspaper to protect your countertop.
  2. Mix equal amounts of acrylic paint and water.
  3. Paint over the entire surface of the wood and let dry. This will stain the wood the color of the paint, but allow the grain of the wood to show through.
  4. Print and cut out your state shape.
  5. Flip the state over to the backside and rub with chalk.
  6. Place state, chalk side down, in the middle of your wood and press down. A chalk impression should be left on the wood.
  7. Using another acrylic paint color, paint over the chalk outline.
  8. Once dry paint a heart over your home city.

Chocolate Peppermint Biscotti

Chocolate Peppermint Biscotti

To be honest, I had never had biscotti before I made these peppermint creations. I guess that throws my credibility out the window when I say these are delicious, but while I may not be a biscotti expert I know delicious dessert when I taste one!

If you still have faith in this recipe, then I suggest you dig out your apron and make these stats! These peppermint chocolate biscotti are a lovely addition to a cup of hot chocolate. Who doesn’t want to warm up after a chilly winter day with that combination?! Yum!
