Blackberry Ice Cream Float

Blackberry Ice Cream Float

We all have people in our lives that are known for their signature dishes. Whether it be a delicious chip dip, fruit salad, or dessert – there is an unspoken agreement that they will bring this creation to each family gathering or party.

For my father, his signature dessert is a root beer float. We enjoyed them on many hot summer nights as a family, and ogled as my dad created a mini assembly line to produce enough root beer floats to feed guests at our family reunion (there were over 90 people!)

While you can’t get much better than a classic root beer float, I was curious about playing around with different flavors. Ian had a few Izzy drinks laying around in the fridge so I opted to try a Blackberry Ice Cream Float! It was a refreshing twist on the classic dessert drink and I think you could have a lot of fun playing around with other flavor comibations!

Dill French Fries

Dill French Fries

There is a trendy restaurant downtown nestled between boutique shops that serves the best french fries. Tossed in truffle oil, the fries are served with a poached egg. The first time it arrived at our table I was a bit weary, an egg on french fries?! But I was a quick convert.

Now when Ian and I want to enjoy an indulgent meal at home, these specialty french fries usually make an appearance. I chose to swap out the truffle oil for dill this summer to add a level of freshness to the flavor combination. The result was drool-worthy.

Mini Floral Cake

Mini Floral Cake

Tomorrow Ian and I celebrate our two-year wedding anniversary. Can you believe it?! Two years! It feels like yesterday I was walking down the aisle towards my best friend, but the calendar doesn’t lie – 730 days have since gone by.

These past two years have been filled with many adventures (here too!), laughter, and trials. Through it all, I’ve felt blessed to have Ian by my side and I’m looking forward to what year three has in store for us!

To celebrate, I baked this mini floral cake! It’s easy to bake (shh, don’t tell anyone I used a box mix!), but the fresh floral decorations add an air of elegance. This cake would make a sweet addition to a birthday party treat table or in our case – an anniversary dinner!

To make this at home, just keep it simple! Divide a box cake mix into two greased mini cake tins. Bake according to the instructions and let cool. Layer vanilla frosting between tiers and decorate with fresh blooms.
