Strawberry Smoothie Bowl

Strawberry Smoothie Bowl

The antioxidant packed acai bowl experienced its five seconds of fame on Instagram this year. I have a sneaking suspicion this breakfast item was ordered for its photogenic quality than its health benefits – but I’m not here to judge! Who wouldn’t want a beautifully presented breakfast?

This phenomenon made me brainstorm what other breakfast items I could transform into works of art. I settled on a strawberry smoothie bowl. It follows the same foundation as an acai bowl: pour smoothie in a bowl + sprinkle with delicious toppings. Bonus: the smoothie is a cheerful pink color. (Note: This would be perfect for breakfast on Valentine’s Day!)

DIY Tea Towels

DIY Tea Towels! Perfect hostess gift or wedding present!

My godmother is one of those people who overflows with creative talent. I remember spending summer nights at her house sitting around the kitchen table painting sun catchers, cross stitching, and learning how to crochet. Therefore, when it comes to wedding presents, it is no wonder that she is known for her embroidered tea towels. My mother received a few over the years and I was overjoyed to receive a set of my own on my wedding day. It was one of those moments when you realize – I’m all grown up! Crazy how a set of tea towels can do that!

Ian and I have a few weddings to attend this summer and I wanted to add a touch of my godmother’s homemade charm to the gifts we picked off the registry. My embroidery skills need a bit of practice, so I opted for a fool-proof option – fabric pens! I chose to write on the towels, but you could also decorate the towels with a cute design!

Quick Tip: Use light strokes so the fabric pen ink won’t bleed! Let the ink dry, then trace over your work to achieve a more saturated look.

Homemade Pizza

Homemade Pizza. Perfect for a stay-at-home date night!

One of the highlights of hosting sleepovers when I was young were the make-your-own pizza stations. My mom would buy mini pizza crusts and an array of toppings so we could make our own mini creations.

Recently, Ian and I were at a loss of what to do for our date night. Then I remembered these pizza party sleepovers and ran out to the store to pick up a few ingredients. When I got home Ian had put on a record and we began decorating our personalized pizza!

It was a low-key date night, but we enjoyed spending time in the kitchen together. We even turned up the music volume and had an impromptu pajama dance party in the kitchen while our pizza was in the oven. It just goes to show sleepover parties are always a good idea – even when you’re an adult!
