Maple Bourbon Walnut Angel Food Cake

Maple Bourbon Walnut Angel Food Cake

There were two birthday desserts that were staples in our house growing up – chocolate éclair and angel food cake. I often opted for the angel food cake and my mom would make her special raspberry glaze to drizzle over the top. Seriously, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Over the years, angel food cake is still a family favorite, but my sister has up the ante by making it from scratch! Yes, from scratch! I’m still not at her level and cut corners by baking a box mix, but I try to make up for it with the icing. This time around I whipped together a maple bourbon glaze and sprinkled walnuts on top of the cake. It’s interesting how the simplest tweak to a recipe can make it feel fresh and new.

Cinnamon Raisin Stuffed French Toast with Maple Bourbon Whipped Cream

Cinnamon Raisin Stuffed French Toast with Maple Bourbon Whipped Cream

Goodness! That title is a mouth-full! But doesn’t it make you want to have breakfast for dinner tonight?! I might stray from our weekly meal plan and make a batch of these myself!

Cinnamon Raisin Stuffed French Toast with Maple Bourbon Whipped Cream

I got the idea for this stuffed french toast recipe when Ian and I were out for brunch at The Creamery. They have their own spin on stuffed french toast, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the cream cheese filling. As any foodie would do, I took the parts of the dish that I loved and combined them with new flavors. In this case, it was swapping out the cream cheese filling with a light maple bourbon whipped cream. The result was drool-worthy!

Feel free to mix and match flavors and have fun with this recipe. Don’t like sautéed apples? Throw on a handful of fresh berries! Love cream cheese? Then forgo the whipped cream. It’s all about experimenting in the kitchen and discovering new flavor combinations that you love. Make sure to share your re-creations with #beautyandblooms so I can like your photos!

Bourbon Caramel Corn

Bourbon Caramel Corn

Fathers can be the hardest people to buy gifts for. Either their hobbies are too expensive for your price range, or they have a non-existent “wish-list” since they buy everything they want themselves.

Bourbon Caramel Corn

Thankfully, food is always a welcomed gift. Given that November is my father’s birthday month, I recently had a brainstorm session to think up a creative gift for the man who has everything and wants nothing.

Bourbon Caramel Corn

My father has a sweet spot for caramel corn, so I decided to take a modern spin on a classic treat – Bourbon Caramel Corn. While you might be concerned that the bourbon will be overpowering, I can assure you that the alcohol kick is boiled off and you are left with a subtle flavoring. Enjoy!
