Outdoor Movie Night

Outdoor Movie Night

The idea of going to a drive-in movie theater always appealed to me. Laying under the stars, popcorn in hand, watching a film seemed like the perfect date night – until I actually experienced it. While I was a fan of watching a film under the stars, I wasn’t keen on the fact that the movie ended at midnight and we still had a long drive home from the theater ahead of us. Therefore, I decided to make a few modifications to throw the perfect outdoor movie night!

Outdoor Movie Night

You don’t need to drive to the countryside to enjoy an outdoor movie. Just throw down a blanket in your backyard, add a few pillows and you have set the stage for a cozy date night. Bonus points if you add a few twinkle lights!

Add in a few of your favorite snacks and you are ready to snuggle in and watch a film. You can get fancy with a projector, but we chose to keep things simple and propped up an iPad. This date night is the perfect way to get outside and enjoy the ambiance of a drive-in theater in your own backyard!

It’s already the middle of August and I feel like this month is going by too quickly! I’m not ready for summer to be over! The thought of snow still runs shivers down my spine. (Apologies to all you snow bunnies, but this Wisconsin girl still hasn’t fallen in love with the long Mid-Western winters!)

Ian and I have been trying to make the most of the warm weather by eating dinner outside, lounging by the pond reading, or taking our board games outside for  a sunset game night. I love that a simple change of scenery can make an ordinary activity feel fresh and exciting. Next outdoor activity? Movie night! I’m already excited about making our little den outside on the patio to get cozy and watch a movie on our iPad.

Homemade Pizza

Homemade Pizza. Perfect for a stay-at-home date night!

One of the highlights of hosting sleepovers when I was young were the make-your-own pizza stations. My mom would buy mini pizza crusts and an array of toppings so we could make our own mini creations.

Recently, Ian and I were at a loss of what to do for our date night. Then I remembered these pizza party sleepovers and ran out to the store to pick up a few ingredients. When I got home Ian had put on a record and we began decorating our personalized pizza!

It was a low-key date night, but we enjoyed spending time in the kitchen together. We even turned up the music volume and had an impromptu pajama dance party in the kitchen while our pizza was in the oven. It just goes to show sleepover parties are always a good idea – even when you’re an adult!
