Month in Review: March, 2018

Eight years. That’s how long Ian and I have been together. You would think by now we would be sick of each other, but that’s not the case. I still feel a tug at my heart each time we have to part. March was challenging because it was full of nights spent in different cities and falling asleep alone. Once we were back in each others arms, it was hard for me to let go again. Luckily, I had mini weekend getaway and a few fun events sprinkled throughout the month to lift my spirits.

The first event on the docket was a Milwaukee Wave game! A friend of ours won tickets through work and kindly invited Ian and I to tag along. At first, I was just there to get my hands on the hyped up ice cream bubble waffle, but quickly fell in love with the game. The energy of the crowd was contagious and made for an enjoyable night.

The next few weeks flew by and before I knew it Ian was dropping me off at the airport. I booked a weekend trip to see one of my best friends out in Colorado. This was my first trip out to the Denver area and I was blown away by the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. It was definitely a change of scenery from Wisconsin. While it was a short trip, we packed in a lot! We snowshoed up to Emerald Lake, danced on Pearl St., ate ice cream at Union Station, and walked around Red Rocks Amphitheatre. I’m certainly jealous of everyone who gets to call this area home!

Once I flew back to Milwaukee I was greeted by an empty home. Ian was on a week-long work trip, so we had to endure eight days apart. While this may not seem like a long time, I was counting down the minutes until his plane touched down and I could wrap him up in my arms. Once he was back home we celebrated by walking to our favorite ice cream shop and indulging in a sweet treat.

Month in Review: February, 2018

February was my month of “yes.” I’m a constant over-thinker and often talk myself out of trying something new. I feel safe inside my comfort zone and like the familiarity of my routines. Maybe it was the winter blues catching up to me, but I started off the month in a funk. Many areas of my life felt stagnant and I was craving some sort of change – so I decided to open myself up to new opportunities and say yes” more often. This may sound scary if you are in the same boat, but this doesn’t have to be daunting! It can be as simple as breaking your weekly meal plan and grabbing dinner with a friend, or skipping the gym for an evening walk in the park. The main goal is to mix up your routine and get inspired again. Here are a few ways I said yes” in February.

Our local mall can be overwhelming during winter weekends. Milwaukeeans are cooped up inside due to cold temps and frequent snow flurries so they flock to the mall. Therefore, I usually steer clear of this teen hangout, but Ian needed to stop by the Apple store and I decided to tag along. While browsing storefronts I came across a new beauty shop with this perfect Valentine’s day photo opt.

After a long work week, it’s enticing to stay home, pile on the blankets, and watch a movie. However, Ian and I still have so much to discover in Milwaukee, so he was able to pull my out of my cozy vibes and talk me into visiting a brewery. It had a beautiful cream brick taproom and bag toss! It was the perfect way to get reenergized for the weekend and get out of the house.

We continued to be tourists in our own town and booked a tour of Pabst Mansion on a quite Saturday afternoon. It was eye-opening to hear about the rich history of breweries in Wisconsin and take in the beautiful architecture around every corner of this home.

While these were small outings, they were enough to turn my winter blues around. I felt more energized towards the end of the month and I’m excited to see what adventures March brings!

Here is a short video showcasing one second from each day in February. Enjoy!

Month in Review: January, 2018

January began under the palm trees in Florida and ended being surrounded by snowflakes in Wisconsin. After thawing poolside for a week, I needed an adjustment period to cope with the cold. Bundled under layers of thermals, I ventured back into the thick of winter and tried to build up my tolerance. By the end of the month Ian and I were enjoying long walks in the park and attended an outdoor festival. Needless to say, we got back into our winter routine without too much moaning about the cold.

Soon after we returned from Florida, Ian needed to travel to Eau Claire for work. Neither of us have spent much time exploring Eau Claire, so I jumped at the chance to tag along on this mini road trip. We stayed at a quirky boutique hotel, The Oxbow, and took an evening trip to Leinenkugels. Our drive home took longer than expected due to a snow storm, but I was grateful for the time we were able to spend together.

The rest of the month was spent with Mother nature playing games with us. One day all the snow would melt under a heat wave, then the next day we would be under a winter weather advisory. In years past, my heart would sink when I woke up to snow. This year I’ve made a conscious effort to embrace the cold and get outside. Having this mindset has led to magical walks in the woods, snowball fights, and enjoying the first outdoor festival of the year – Mittenfest!

January was definitely a busy month, but I’m glad we were able to kick off 2018 with so many wonderful memories!
