Friday Favorites

This week I was reminded how lucky I am to be in good health. Sometimes I feel I take this for granted, but after celebrating a co-worker’s heart transplant I realize just how lucky I am. So this weekend I am going to take a step back and enjoy all the other little things I never stop to think about; a warm shower, fridge full of food and a comfy bed to fall asleep.

On a lighter note, here are a few photos from our trip to Milwaukee. I hope you all have a great weekend!

DIY Color Blocked Magnets

DIY-Color-Blocked-Magnets

Ian and I have accumulated a collection of magnets from our travels. They are a cheerful reminder of our trips and help brighten up our fridge. Unfortunately, our tendency to purchase fragile magnets mixed with our clumsiness has sent a handful to the magnet graveyard.

Recently, I noticed we were in need of a few more magnets and decided to make a fun DIY project out of it. With a bit of tape and paint I was able to create these geometric wooden magnets!

They add a pop of color to our fridge plus they are wooden – so they won’t break if they fall on our kitchen floor! Score!

To make these yourself pick up a pack of wooden furniture knobs and magnets from your local craft store. Use tape to create straight lines, paint, let dry and repeat. Once your magnets are dry superglue your magnets to the back of the wooden knobs. Let dry for 5 minutes then you are ready to place them on your fridge!

Salted Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Salted-Oatmeal-Chocolate-Chip-Cookie-Recipe

It’s no surprise I bake a lot around here so one would assume I would be able to bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies. Easy peasy, right?! Wrong. Each batch is lacking a certain element, whether that’s flavor or texture.

Then I saw these Whole Wheat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies from Two Peas and Their Pod. My first observation was how drool-worthy they were, then realized they leaned on the “healthy” side! Score!

With my fingers crossed I whipped up a batch. The oven timer went off and I held my breath as I pulled out the cookie trays. To my surprise they looked perfect! Before I got my hopes up I called Ian into the kitchen for a taste-test – and they passed!
