Ian and I got to play tourist while his family was in town visiting. We browsed art boutiques, chatted with shop owners, and toured a cave. Yes, a cave! I remember visiting Cave of the Mounds as a child and loved seeing the natural wonder again  – even if navigating around in the under ground cave sparked small bouts of claustrophobia!

This weekend we are looking forward to taking it easy. We have been on the go for the past two weeks and a quite weekend at home sounds like just what we need.

I hope you all have a fun-filled weekend!

Five Ways to Enjoy Your Alone Time

How-to-Enjoy-Your-Alone-Time-Beauty-and-Blooms

Some people are masters at enjoying their alone time, but for those out there who are constantly on-the-go or prefer to surround yourself with others, being alone can be daunting.  With Ian traveling a lot for work, I have discovers small ways to make the most of my time by myself.

  1. Watch a movie or TV show that your friends/partner don’t enjoy.  For me, this means binge watching my guilty pleasure – The Kardashians.
  2. Sometimes we forget to slow down and treat ourselves, so take this time to pamper yourself! Light a few candles, run a bubble bath and put on an audio book.
  3. Clean house! Overtime clutter builds up so use this time to detox your space by going through all your drawers, cupboards, closets, etc. Gather up one pile for donation and one for trash. While this may feel like work, you will feel energized after your home is in tip-top shape!
  4. Get lost in a book. Reading is often a solitary activity and can easily get pushed to the side. Use your alone time to immerse yourself in a good book or catch up on your magazine reading.
  5. Indulge in one of your interests. Enjoy painting? Baking? Photography? Use this time to perfect your craft. Take a class, read an article or just have fun!

How do you like to enjoy your alone time?

Clay “Sea Glass” Photo Holders

I was looking for a colorful way to display photos around our home and decided to get creative with clay. After a few minutes it was clear – sculpting clay is not my strength.  Not wanting to throw the clay away I rolled and squished out these misshapen balls.

Making sure the bottoms were flat and adding a slit on top I popped them in the oven at 250˙ for 20 minutes. Once they were cooled I sat and thought, how am I going to salvage this project?!

Then it hit me! Painted in hues of blue, they could look like sea glass. So I painted away and in the end, I don’t think they look half bad!
