Maple Bourbon Walnut Angel Food Cake

Maple Bourbon Walnut Angel Food Cake

There were two birthday desserts that were staples in our house growing up – chocolate éclair and angel food cake. I often opted for the angel food cake and my mom would make her special raspberry glaze to drizzle over the top. Seriously, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Over the years, angel food cake is still a family favorite, but my sister has up the ante by making it from scratch! Yes, from scratch! I’m still not at her level and cut corners by baking a box mix, but I try to make up for it with the icing. This time around I whipped together a maple bourbon glaze and sprinkled walnuts on top of the cake. It’s interesting how the simplest tweak to a recipe can make it feel fresh and new.

Halloween Goblin Cocktail

Whether you are hosting a Halloween party or planning on a cozy evening at home, this spooky Goblin cocktail is sure to put you in the festive mood! Bonus: This simple recipe won’t leave you stranded in a grocery aisle hopelessly looking for obscure ingredients. We’ve all experienced that one too many times! (Darn you, elderflower syrup.)

Halloween Goblin Cocktail

This is a simple cocktail, but you can spice it up by using spooky Halloween gummy candy as a garnish. I choose gummy eyeballs, but if you can’t find them at your grocery store gummy worms would work as well!

Pumpkin Spice Scones

Pumpkin Spice Scones with Cream Cheese Frosting

October is in full swing and there’s no denying it – fall has arrived. While it’s bittersweet to pack away my sundresses and flip flops, there is an element of excitement with the change in season. Fall scarves, cozy boots and the infamous pumpkin spice latte are all perks of saying farewell to summer.

Pumpkin Spice Scones with Cream Cheese Frosting

While baking these scones, the sweet smell of pumpkin spice enveloped our home and brought the festive spirit alive. Not soon after, I was rummaging around in our closet pulling out all of our fall decorations. It’s funny how the simple act of baking can lift your spirits and get you excited for the change in season (it’s no secret that I’ve been mourning the end of summer…)
