Month in Review: January 2019

January was a month of extremes. We rang in the new year in 80˙ heat before returning home to endure -50˙ wind chills during the polar vortex. Despite these changes in weather, Ian and I filled the month with a balance of fun-filled family outings and cozy days at home.

The month began listening to the waves crash upon the Vero Beach shoreline. Ian’s family planed this staycation while we were visiting Florida over the holidays and we couldn’t have been more grateful. We enjoyed watching the sunrise on the beach, splashing in the waves, and playing board games with the family at night.

While we were in Florida, Ian and I managed to sneak in a day trip to Miami. We wandered around the Wynwood neighborhood to take in all of the murals, eat Taiyaki ice cream, and meet up with one of my good friends for dinner. Sadly, this was our last day in Florida. I couldn’t believe our trip flew by so fast!

Luckily, when we returned home, we had a few weeks before we were greeted with the polar vortex. The -50˙ wind chill closed down the town and everyone hunkered down at home. We filled our nights baking bread, playing card games, and reliving the magic of the Harry Potter film series.

Once the weather warmed up Ian and I celebrated with a visit to Milwaukee’s downtown ice bars. When my toes started to lose feeling we decided it was time to go home and warm up! It was a nice outing, regardless of the cold, and helped ward off cabin fever.
