Month in Review: July, 2018

At first, I was nervous about this post. In my mind, Ian and I had a low-key month after all of our June travels. Then, as I shuffled through my videos and photos I realized I couldn’t have been more wrong. While we didn’t break out our passports in July, we filled our days with mini adventures around town and snuck in multiple trips back to Madison.

July started with a bang. Literally! Our Fourth of July was spent being surrounded by friends on the lake. While I love taking a dip in the water, roasting marshmallows, and sipping on a cocktail, there is one thing about the lake I hate – mosquitoes. I had the unfortunate luck to be bit right on my eye. Being slightly allergic to mosquito bites, my eye promptly swole shut and Ian had to run to the store and buy me an eye patch. Needless to say, I ended the holiday weekend looking very fashionable.

Next on the agenda was a family wedding! My cousin said “I do” and arrived via helicopter to the countryside reception. I don’t think anyone can top her grand entrance! The evening was filled with tear enducing speeches, delicious food, and dancing.

Once we were back in Milwaukee we were ready to take advantage of all of the summer events! First on our list was Bastille Days. You might think we had our fill of french culture during our trip to Paris, but you would be wrong! When I saw this event pop up on our calendar I was more than excited to shuffle my way through a crowd to grab a Nutella crêpe and snap a picture with the miniature Eiffel Tower.

Another event that made it’s way to the top of my priority list was Ballet Beat. The Milwaukee Ballet puts on free performances around the city during the summer and I was lucky enough to catch their final show. This very well could be my favorite event of the summer!

The following weekend Ian and I packed our bags and headed back to Madison to attend a Mallards game with my family. We made the most of the family weekend by playing lawn games and driving around the farm on the 4-Wheeler.

Our month came to a close sitting on a hill listening to music at the Skyline Music Series. The silver lining of packing up your life and relocating to a new city is discovering special events such as this. I couldn’t get over how beautiful the Milwaukee skyline was as the sunset during the concert and I felt myself bursting with gratitude. I feel lucky to live in such a beautiful place.

June, you were a month to remember! Our days were filled with birthday celebrations, summer festivals, a wedding, and exploring new cities. By the end of the month I felt like I needed a nice lie-in, but lazy mornings will have to be saved for a later date. Summer is the time to savor being busy and lean into new experiences. Here are a few of our favorite memories from June.

The month began getting to know our own city better. We are still new to the Milwaukee area and were excited to try out new places to dine during restaurant week. Best part – this event landed on Ian’s birthday weekend! It was the perfect excuse to get dressed up, drive downtown, and indulge in a three course meal.

Shortly after Ian’s birthday celebrations, we were packing our bags for another happy occasion – a wedding! Ian’s cousin was getting married in Scotland and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to catch up with family and toast the happy couple.

Since we were already abroad, we decided to extend our trip to explore a new city – Copenhagen! It was our first time in Scandinavia and it won’t be our last. The city was breathtaking and we fell in love with the Danish culture.

We ended our trip with a quick stop in Paris. Since Ian and I had both been to Paris multiple times, we enjoyed exploring the the quieter spots tucked away in the city. I was teary-eyed a few times during our stay since it felt surreal to share this experience with Ian.

Once back home in Wisconsin, we were thrusted into festival season. On one Saturday alone there were six festivals taking place. I was overwhelmed with our options, but decided to check out the Strawberry Festival in Cedarburg. Ian and I strolled down the the main street looking at craft stalls, eating strawberry short cake, and stopping by the winery for strawberry wine.

We ended the month back in Green Bay! We grabbed dinner with old friends, visited our favorite spots around town and reminisced about our time living in De Pere. Even though we felt like we were melting in the 96 degree heat, we had the best time walking down memory lane.

Month in Review: May, 2018

I have a feeling when I look back on 2018, May will be my favorite month. Every weekend was filled with gatherings with friends and family – and my sister and I snuck in a quick trip to New York City. See what I mean?! This month is going to be hard to top.

I kicked off the month in the best way possible – a family party! My cousin is tying the knot this summer and everyone got together for her bridal shower. While I don’t have shortage of cousins, this was one of the few bridal showers I’ve attended. So I was surprised when my team came in second for the popular toilet paper dress competition. (Clearly, I had low expectations seeing as I was proud of second place!) Once the party wrapped up I was off to spend the night at Ian’s grandma’s house to enjoy time with his family before the weekend was over.

Not soon after our return to Milwaukee, I was pulling my bag back out and packing for New York. My sister and I had played around with the idea of booking a trip to NYC together and finally took the plunge! We battled with rain the entire trip, but we made the most of this time together and came home with the best memories.

After some time to recuperate we were back in celebration mode for Memorial Day weekend. Ian and I took advantage of the beautiful weather and spent most of our time outdoors. Surprisingly, after long afternoons walking along the lakeshore, grilling out, and playing tennis neither of us got a tan. Oh well! It was still a wonderful weekend and we were thankful to catch up with good friends and meet my sister’s new puppy, Poppy!
