Apple Cider Donuts

Apple Cider Donuts | Beauty and Blooms

Nothing beats a brisk day at the orchard filling our baskets with apples followed by warm cider and donuts. While Ian and I make a few trips out to the orchard each season, I wanted to try making these apple cider donuts at home so I had the option to satisfy my craving without leaving the house.

I kept my expectations low since this was my first attempt at baking apple cider donuts. Luckily this recipe was fool-proof and they came out of the oven nice and fluffy.

After they cooled I rolled them in cinnamon sugar and took my first bite. Right away I knew I was in trouble! They were delicious! I kept a few to enjoy for breakfast, but the rest were packaged up for Ian to take to work. That is the one downside to baking these at home – you can’t limit yourself to just one! So I suggest if you decide to bake these you invite a few friends over to nibble on this fall treat!

Homemade PopTarts

How are kids already back in school? It feels like summer went by in a blink of an eye, but I guess that’s how it always feels! Growing up, one plus side of going back to school was buying a few special treats for breakfast and lunches. We weren’t allowed sugary snacks on the regular so getting a box of PopTarts was a big deal!

Ian and I still try to limit the amount of sweets we keep in the house, so when I surprised him with a batch of homemade PopTarts he could barely wait until they had cooled off to pop one in his mouth.

In the past, I made my own pastry dough but this time around I bought pre-made pie crusts and it was a huge time-saver! These PopTarts are also highly versatile. You can have fun and play around with fillings or toppings. For this batch, I stuck to a traditional flavor, strawberry, but I played around with mini PopTarts. How cute are these little guys?!

How to:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Roll out your pie crusts and cut into rectangles.
  • Add a dollop of your filling to the center on one rectangle
  • Top with another rectangle and crimp the edges shut using a fork
  • Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown
  • Once cool spread on the topping of your choice

French Toast Bar

I love a good brunch. A few times a year while growing up we would pack the family in the car and have brunch with my grandparents at the local country club. It was always a special treat to get dressed up and indulge my sweet tooth with a plate of french toast dippers.

I still love the concept of brunch. I mean, we all can agree that breakfast food is the best. Right?! Now add friends and family to the equation and you have a winning combination.

For those days where you would rather avoid the after church brunch rush try making a french toast bar at home! Gather up your favorite toppings and enjoy mixing and matching flavors. My favorite combination was berries and walnuts! YUM!
