Lemon Poppyseed Scones

My mom and I have always been close, so it comes as now surprise that she bought me the perfect Christmas present – my first ever scone pan (and a few baking mixes to go along with it!) I had never made scones before, so the starter pack of mixes was perfect. Ian and I devoured the first batch of scones, so I hopped on Pinterest to find a lemon poppyseed scone recipe.

The other day I attempted to make them from scratch and was surprised that they turned out!

Honesty hour: my first attempts usually end up in the trash.

Now that I know I can bake scones, I am looking forward to trying out new recipes! Have any favorites? Share them below!

Winter Wine Walk

It’s always a challenge to find date night ideas in the winter since shivering all night is not my idea of a romantic evening. Luckily, our town’s winter wine walk fell on a rather warm weekend. So Ian and I donned our winter gear and walked up and down the main streets stopping in little boutique stores and sampling wines. Our favorite stop was in a quaint antique store where we flipped through old issues of Time magazine, vintage books and long forgotten postcards. We enjoyed immersing ourselves in days past, but eventually we had to finish our wine samples and head home.

Holy crap, it has been cold outside! For a native sconnie bitter winters are a common occurrence, but after our trip to Florida the below zero windchill was too much to handle.

I’m serious! A few tears were shed in the airport parking lot as we dug our car out of the snow. It was a mixture of exhaustion and the realization that I would have to put all my sundresses back in storage. Wisconsin winters are not for the fait of heart!

Thankfully, Ian and I were able to escape the cold for a few days and visit his family in Florida. We tried to spend as much time outdoors during our stay and as a result my legs are one shade darker (yay!) but now have to covered up in layers of thermal tights…

Now as I thawed at my desk each morning after walking in from the icy parking lot I looked at these pictures to remind myself sunnier days are ahead! Only 4 more months…(and that’s being optimistic!)
