Happy Halloween! Whether you go all out for the holiday or like to keep things simple, these spider dirt cups are the perfect way to add a bit of spooky fun to your day. Since Ian and I are in the phase of life where we don’t have any little ones to go trick-or-treating with, our Halloween celebrations are quite mild. Therefore, to get us in the holiday spirit I made a small batch of these creepy crawly dirt cups.

After a long day at work, these spider dirt cups can turn an ordinary evening into a mini Halloween party. Just put on Hocus Pocus and you are set! Your spooky evening is sorted! However, if you are looking to spice up your Halloween celebrations and throw a party these spider dirt cups would be a wonderful addition to your dessert table. Guests can even wear the spider rings after they enjoy their dessert! Can you really ask for more from a Halloween dessert?! I don’t think so!

Halloween Spider Dirt Cups

Ingredients:

  • Oreos
  • Chocolate pudding
  • Vanilla pudding
  • Cool Whip
  • Milk
  • Spider rings

Directions:

  • In separate bowls, make the  vanilla and chocolate pudding according to the box directions. Fold in 1 C. of cool whip into each pudding mixture and set aside.
  • Place around a dozen Oreos into a blender and pulse until finely chopped.
  • Spoon alternating layers of Oreo and pudding into glass containers.
  • Top with a dollop of Cool Whip and a spider ring. Enjoy!

Pop Tarts made a rare appearance in our cupboard growing up, so when we had them in the house it felt like a special treat. My favorite flavors were strawberry and brown sugar. I always ate them toasted so the filling would be nice and warm – pure happiness (and sugar!) on a cold school morning. After a nutrition 101 class ruined the idea that Pop Tarts were an acceptable breakfast food, it has been years since I’ve enjoyed the nostalgic treat. In an effort to walk down memory lane and celebrate the arrival of chilly mornings, I made a batch of homemade pumpkin pie pop tarts this week.

Pumpkin Pie Pop Tart Recipe

As these pop tarts baked in the oven, our kitchen started to smell like Thanksgiving morning. Pumpkin pie spice and nutmeg filled the air as I anxiously checked the timer, waiting to finally tuck into one of these fall treats! Once they were done baking, I whipped up a maple glaze to spread over the top of the pop tarts. These pop tarts are a fun way to enjoy a grown-up version of a childhood treat and celebrate the arrival of autumn! Enjoy!

Pumpkin Pie Pop Tart Recipe

Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts

Ingredients

  • Pre-made pie crust
  • 1/2 C. pumpkin puree
  • 3 Tbs. maple syrup
  • 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt

For the maple glaze:

  • 1/2 C. powdered sugar
  • 3 Tbs. maple syrup
  • 3 Tbs. water, as needed to reach proper consistency

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350˚
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, maple syrup, and spices together. Set aside.
  • Unroll the pie crust and cut out your desired size of rectangles. Make sure you cut an even amount so each pop tart has a base and a top.
  • Lay half of your dough rectangle out on a baking sheet and spoon a dollop of the pumpkin pie filling into the center of the dough.
  • Place another piece of dough on top of each pastry and crimp the edges shut with a fork.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top of the pastry is golden.
  • While the pop tarts are baking, mix up the maple glaze.
  • When the pop tarts are baked and have been cooled, spread a thin layer of maple glaze on each pastry.

Caramel apples are my weakness. A few years ago, I let my guard down and ate as many caramel apples as my heart desired. It was all fun an games until I found myself reclined in an orthodontist’s chair. You may be asking what the connection between caramel apples and a trip to the orthodontist? Well, after about ten caramel apples the glue on my bottom retainer wore off and the poked tongue every time I moved my mouth. Quite a painful experience just for a few caramel apples!

An emergency orthodontist visit later, one would think my love for caramel apples would have subsided. I’m here to say, the love affair is still going strong! However, I’ve learned to limit myself and try to sneak in the flavor combination in other ways. Therefore, I couldn’t wait to try my hand at making a batch of caramel apple sangria this fall season! It’s perfect to whip up and keep in the fridge for an imprint girls’ night, game day tailgate, or to warm up and sip at night next to a fire.

Caramel Apple Sangria

Ingredients

  • 1/2 gallon apple cider
  • 1 bottle white wine
  • 2 C caramel vodka
  • 2 apples, chopped
  • Cinnamon sticks optional*

Directions:

  • Pour the apple cider, wine and vodka into a pitcher
  • Stir to combine and add in the chopped apple
  • Cover and place in the fridge overnight
  • Serve hot or cold with a cinnamon stick garnish
